Microtherm® SlimVac for long life performance.

The Forschungsinstitut für Wärmeschutz e.V. in Munich, more commonly known simply as FIW München, has established an enviable reputation as a  leading consulting services provider specialising in the thermal performance of buildings.

FIW München tested samples of Microtherm® SlimVac panels to measure their thermal performance before and after aging in order to verify the anticipated level of performance after a nominal working life of 15 years.

A vacuum insulation panel containing a core of microporous insulation offers one of the lowest centre panel thermal conductivity of any superinsulation.  It also offers the best dependability for long term performance and does not require any enhancement from the use of a chemical getter.

FIW München tested Microtherm® SlimVac test samples according to BS EN 12667:2001.

The initial centre panel thermal conductivity  was just 0.0042 W.mK which rose to 0.0048 W.mK after climate change testing to DIN 52344, followed by 180 days of accelerated aging at a temperature of      80 oC.  Based on these data and results from the research work carried out by the Swiss research institute, EMPA, the estimated value of thermal conductivity after 15  years at room temperature was an impressively low 0.0053 W.mK.

This very low thermal conductivity  coupled with a wide range of thicknesses, foils, and edge finishes (straight, rounded, or chamfered), make Microtherm® SlimVac the cost effective solution, minimising insulation thickness while maintaining optimum performance for all vacuum insulation needs.
